Why do I need headphones?
Each ear must hear its own tone in isolation. Your auditory system then constructs the "beat" — the frequency difference — inside your head. Over speakers the tones mix in the air and the effect collapses.
What am I actually hearing?
Two sine waves: 200 Hz in the left ear and 200 Hz plus the beat frequency in the right (e.g. 210 Hz for Alpha Focus). The perceived 10 Hz pulse is created by your brain, not the speakers.
How loud should it be?
Quiet — the effect does not scale with volume. Set it just above comfortable hearing threshold and let it sit in the background.
How long until I feel something?
Give any recipe at least 3–5 minutes; entrainment is gradual. For sleep recipes, start 15–30 minutes before you want to drift off.
Is it safe?
Binaural beats are gentle audio, not medicine. If you have epilepsy, wear a pacemaker, or are pregnant, check with a doctor first — and never use sleep recipes while driving.
